Since when has the association officially existed?

The “Verschwisterungskomitee der Stadt Groß-Umstadt – Verein zur Pflege internationaler Beziehungen” (Twinning Committee of the Town of Groß-Umstadt – association for the cultivation of international relations) has officially existed in its present legal form since 1988.

• Official association status (1988): The association’s basic statutes came into force on 1 July 1988. This marked formal institutionalisation in order to nurture international relations professionally – particularly with the partner town of Santo Tirso, which joined in the same year.
• Historical predecessor (1966): A twinning committee, however, effectively existed from the start of the first partnership with Saint-Péray. As early as 1966 there was a body with a president (former mayor Ludwig Wedel) and an executive chairman (Karl Schneider) that coordinated activities.

In summary: as an organisational unit the committee has existed since 1966, as a registered association with statutes officially since 1 July 1988.
